Generalat Roma

The city of Rome is one of the historical places for the FCJM Congregation. Based on their belief in Divine Providence, Muder Clara and Sr. Evangelista Hambücher went to the Eternal City in Rome on February 10, 1881. They traveled in great poverty, so they sought help from several people including Father Anton de Waal who often helped German pilgrims who came to Rome.

Both of them were given a place by a benevolent person, so they often changed places depending on whomever offered them a space. They spent some time in Via Sistina, which later became part of the parish of SS. Vincenzo e Anastasio near Fontana di Trevi.

After approximately one year in Rome, Mother Clara finally returned her soul into the hands of her Creator on October 5, 1882 in Rome, Italy. She was buried on October 7, on the Feast of the Holy Rosary at Campo Verano Cemetery in Rome.

The FCJM sisters preserve the history made by its foundress. Thus, to the present day, FCJM remains present in Rome, Italy by establishing the Generalate Roma community. The FCJM Generalate was originally located in Paderborn, Germany and moved to Rome in 1949 to this day.

The General Council and the International Team Coordinators of the FCJM Congregation reside in Rome.  Some sisters help them with their tasks such as housekeeping. Recently, there are also sisters from Indonesia who are studying in Rome. They live in an international community and are enriched with the culture around them.

The address of the FCJM Generalate is currently at Via di San Alessio, 22-24.
