SOCIAL MINISTRIES

The great love and profound charity of Mother Clara Pfaender was the main ground for the founding of the FCJM Congregation. She was called to carry out the work of Christian charity and to give the maximum possible help to poor and abandoned children (cf. FC I; Const. No. 3). Continuing the goals and ideals of the Foundress, the FCJM sisters have a strong social concern and passion. There are many non-profit and charity works dedicated by the sisters in various countries to help many people who are really in need.

Currently several social ministries are run by the team such as orphanages, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers for the disabled. The sisters provide shelter for orphanage children and the elderly who need a place to live. They are treated well, cared for, given education, spiritual formation, and the disciplinary way of life with love regardless of ethnicity, religion, race, language, and other social issues. In Indonesia, there are several social organizations that provide surgery and alleviate the costs such as cleft lip surgery, hernia, noma, burns, atresia ani (no anal opening), tumors, hydrocephalus, CTEV (crooked foot), meningocele, contracture due to burns, orthopedic surgery, and plastic surgery.

In order to empower patients with disabilities, the sisters also train them with skills for their future use when they return to their families or communities. These skills include carpentry, sewing, electrical, candle making, sculpture making, livestock raising, gardening, and the use of technology such as
computers.
