The Feast of the Rehabilitation of Mother Clara Pfaender
Our paths are Mysteries of Divine Providence, which lead us according to God’s will, even when we do not understand it. (Mother M. Clara Pfaender)
The 18th of February gathers us once again before the mystery of God’s truth, which is often revealed in silence and patience, yet never ceases to illumine the history of those who place their trust in Him. On this day of grace, we commemorate the rehabilitation of Mother M. Clara and pause with grateful hearts to reflect on her life, her suffering, and her unwavering fidelity.
For us, this moment is not merely the remembrance of a historical event, but a deeply spiritual act. It is an invitation to reread the history of our Congregation with eyes purified by faith and to recognize God’s work even where the path has been marked by trials, misunderstandings, and pain. The rehabilitation of Mother M. Clara thus becomes a sign of God’s justice, which does not delay but comes in His time, at the proper moment.
The life of Mother M. Clara was shaped by obedience, total self-giving, and abandonment to God’s Providence. She loved the Church without reservation and remained faithful to her calling, even when fidelity required silence, withdrawal, and the acceptance of the cross. In this attitude we recognize the face of Christ, humble and obedient.
In her suffering, Mother M. Clara did not seek to justify herself, but transformed the trial into an offering. She united her pain with the pierced Heart of Jesus and with the sorrowful Heart of Mary, living a profound communion with the mystery of salvation.
Today, the restoration of truth shows us that this silent sacrifice was not in vain but became a seed of life for our Congregation and for the world.
We are invited to look at the past not with judgment, but with compassion, to learn from it, and to allow grace to transform wounds into sources of unity and renewal. In the light of this truth, we are called to live fraternity with greater sensitivity, to cultivate mutual obedience, and to keep the received charism alive.
Mother M. Clara still speaks to us today from her silence filled with God. She urges us to remain steadfast in prayer, not to be discouraged by difficulties, and to trust that the Lord guides the steps of our Congregation even when the path seems dark. Her example calls us to a mature fidelity, lived not out of a desire for recognition, but out of pure love for God and for the mission entrusted to us.
On this anniversary, we renew our commitment to live the Franciscan vocation with joy, in simplicity, poverty, and a spirit of service. We desire that our consecrated life may be a living witness to God’s love and a sign of hope and light for today’s world, so fragile and thirsting for truth, justice, and mercy.
We entrust our Congregation to the intercession of Mother M. Clara, asking that her fidelity may continue to bear fruit in us as courage, unity, and peace.
May our common journey be illuminated by truth, sustained by prayer, and strengthened by the love of Christ!
A blessed feast day!
