A Saint who continues to inspire: 800 years since the passing of Saint Francis
In the spirit of the Franciscan Jubilee Year, marking the 800th anniversary of the transit of Saint Francis of Assisi, the community of Franciscan Sisters in Caransebeș, gathered on Friday, June 19, 2026, in prayer and contemplation to honor the spiritual legacy of the one who profoundly shaped Church history through his witness of poverty, fraternity, and love for creation.
The chapel of Sisters in Caransebeș became a place of deep communion in prayer, where the faithful assembled to rediscover the timeless relevance of the Saint of Assisi’s life example.
Saint Francis does not belong merely to history; his witness continues to speak warmly to hearts today in a world marked by strife, division, and ecological suffering. His life gently invites us to renew our way of living: inviting us into a more trusting and obedient relationship with God, deeper communal bonds with others rooted in mutual care and welcome, and a reverent care for creation; cherished as a divine gift rather than a resource to exploit. In this spirit, Saint Francis confronts any “theology of power” that fosters domination, violence, or indifference, offering instead a spirituality of minor, humble service, and mercy.

Following moments of shared prayer and reflection on Franciscan Spirituality, the gathering culminated in the Holy Mass presided over by parish priest Fr. Marin Matieș, giving praise and thanksgiving to God for the abundant graces received.
Eight centuries after his entry into eternal life, Saint Francis’s message remains deeply vital: true peace begins within the human heart, reveals itself through simple acts of love, and bears fruit when lived with humility, courage, and joy.
May the Lord grant us each the grace to become, like Saint Francis, instruments of peace, hope, and joy in today’s world.
