The Czech Church Choirs Festival in Gârnic – A Celebration of Faith and Traditions
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the town of Gârnic hosted a new edition of the Czech Church Choirs Festival, an event highlighting the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the Czech communities in Banat. Organized by the Democratic Union of Czechs in Romania, the gathering sought to safeguard the sacred music and religious traditions of the local Czech ethnic community.
The festival brought together numerous church choirs from the Czech Roman Catholic communities across Mountainous Banat, offering participants and worshippers in Gârnic a beautiful repertoire of sacred hymns sung in Czech. Such gatherings build a vital bridge between generations, nurturing the spiritual identity and living faith of the Czech faithful in Romania.

Among the choirs that touched the audience with their expressive singing and prayerful spirit was the ensemble from Caransebeș, led by Sister Lydia Fechetă together with the Franciscan Sisters. The harmony of their voices and their heartfelt dedication were warmly appreciated by all present, adding great solemnity and grace to the celebration.
Beyond a musical encounter, the day was a true celebration of Czech faith, culture, and language, drawing together the faithful, priests, civic leaders, and lovers of sacred music in warm fellowship.
By hosting this festival in Gârnic, one of Romania’s principal Czech settlements, the organizers reaffirmed the importance of cherishing and passing on the spiritual legacy received from previous generations.
