Franciscan Sisters have been members of their order for 70, 65, 60 and 40 years
Salzkotten (FCJM). The sisters, who celebrated their religious jubilees on Saturday, have belonged to their order for 70, 65, 60 and 40 years. Bishop Bernardo Johannes Bahlmann OFM Franciscan from Óbidos/Brazil, celebrated the festive service at the Franciscan Sisters of Salzkotten with other priests, the sisters and their relatives and friends in the motherhouse church.
“Helping to Build the Kingdom of God”
“God, our Father, look upon our sisters, who today look back on 40, 60, 65 and 70 years of religious life. You have taken them by the hand during these years; they were allowed to participate in building up the kingdom of God in the spirit of the foundress,” prayed Bishop Johannes Bahlmann during the festive service. Like the jubilarian Sister M. Klara Lüers, Bishop Bahlmann comes from Visbek in northern Germany. She celebrated her 60th anniversary in the order on Saturday. Sister M. Klara is the founder and director of the Franciscan Sisters’ projects in Malawi, which include the St. Francis School and other educational institutions for children orphaned by AIDS. She still lives in the East African country with her fellow sisters from Germany and Indonesia. She has received several awards for her many years of commitment there.
Many people also know Sister M. Alfonsis Burrichter, who worked for many years as hospital matron at St. Josef’s Hospital in Salzkotten. She celebrated the 65th anniversary of her religious order on Saturday.
Sister M. Anke Junker, who is still in active service as head of the St. Franziskus retirement home in Marsberg-Beringhausen, celebrated her 40th anniversary with the order. The oldest jubilarians this year are Sister M. Amaltrud Schnieders and Sister M. Meinradis Themann. They both celebrated 70 years in the order.
