Pilgrims Of Hope: Building Hope with Youth

Pilgrims Of Hope: Building Hope with Youth

Young people are the hope and potential of the future. They are inseparable from the bright future of the Church and the nation. Their presence is essential for the continuity of life on earth.

In Suriname, we serve in four government schools. There we not only educate the students but also accompany them through activities such as character building, singing and praying together, and offering faith formation in the parish community.

As missionaries, we dedicate our lives to sharing the Gospel and extending a helping hand to everyone in need. We are deeply grateful for the many people who support our mission, among them the Bishop, religious congregations, and countless lay faithful.

“Our language skills are still limited, but we always try to do our best in our services in Suriname.”

On July 2025, we organized a mini-concert with the young people, which we called “Nickeria’s Got Talent.” At first, they seemed hesitant and unmotivated. They were not exited to practices. But with patience, encouragement, and motivation, their enthusiasm began to grow.

Step by step, the young people became eager to share their talents and creativities. About 50 people attended the concert, including the youth themselves. It was the very first event of its kind in Nickeria. The concert went very well and many parents were enjoying to see their children confidently sharing their talents.

Pope Francis has reminded us that“Young people are pilgrims of hope.” We are called to encourage them to face life’s challenges as a pilgrimage of faith, becoming lights of hope in a world that longs for it.

We continue to accompany young people in many different ways. During the Jubilee of Youth in Rome, Pope Leo XIV urged more than 1 million young people to seek authentic relationships rooted in Christ rather than fleeting online connections.

He highlighted the importance of faith and true friendship, and he called on youth to make courageous choices.

In this Jubilee Year, let us open our hearts to the youth. Let us journey together as “Pilgrims of Hope,” sharing God’s love, helping them grow in faith, and encouraging them to offer their energy, joy, and enthusiasm to the Church and the world.

“If you love this world, love young people!”
